The grounds
Two, and only two. Everything else in the system sits on one of these, and neither is a tone or an index.

The colorways
Every tone in the system is a three colour stack: a light, a core, and a deep. A single swatch cannot do a hover state, a print, and a dark ground at the same time, so nothing is ever specified as one value.
The palette runs on two wheels. Wheel one is the platform: fourteen families, mint through cyan, holding lightness and chroma steady so no family can be louder than its neighbour. Wheel two is the reserve: twelve tones read off the American Express set, where PTD CLUB and Vers Capital live. Nothing in the reserve takes a platform family and no platform family takes a reserve tone. Both wheels, with every tone and the surface it indexes, are on the docs index.

Colour is an index, not decoration. A family is a secondary accent on cards, tiles and blocks, and it never dominates a page. Headlines are single colour, always.
