Colour here is an index, not decoration. A tone tells you what you are looking at. It is never chosen because it looked good that day.

Every tone is three colours

Light · core · deep. Three steps, always, drawn three squares tall. Two steps is not a stack and is never correct. A single swatch cannot serve a hover state, a print and a dark ground at once, so nothing in this system is ever specified as one value.

CORE alone is a real device. Use the middle step by itself when a mark sits against flat site colour, runs small, or has to read hard. That is the one sanctioned way to show less than three.

Two wheels and a union

The range is chosen by the DOCUMENT, never by taste. A section takes MAIN. A membership or account surface takes RESERVE. An annual, a master kit or an investor deck takes ALL IN. There is no fourth option and no mixing by hand: a document that seems to need MAIN and RESERVE at the same time is an ALL IN document.

Lightness and chroma are held steady across the run so no family can be louder than its neighbour. Mint leads: it is the action colour, the stat digit, the dominant bloom.

The two wheels never cross

A CLUB tier may not take a MAIN family.
A section of the site may not take a RESERVE tone.
One signed exception. The Vers Capital pillars borrow GOLD, CERULEAN and PLATINUM on purpose. The account itself sits on MIDNIGHT and stays off the ladder. See Vers Capital.

The hard rules

Flat only. No gradients, no sheen, no metallic texture. An earlier cut used brushed-metal card faces and they are dead.
Chips are always at full core saturation, inactive ones included. A washed-out chip reads as a broken swatch, not an off state.
The active tone is marked by size only. Never opacity, never a border, never a fill box.
Label ink is derived from luminance, never picked. One hardcoded label colour is always wrong for one end of the ladder, because the darkest tone and the lightest one cannot share it.
House identity is a solid wheel colour, never a hue-rotated rainbow mesh.

Where the numbers live

In one file, and everything else is generated from it: the storefront tokens, the stylesheet block, the kit pages and the spec. A check fails the build if any mirror drifts. If you need a hex, read it from the palette module. If you need to change one, change the token file and regenerate.

Two families carry derived deeps rather than published ones. A device that needs a real deep value cannot use those two until the numbers are signed.
